As George Costanza would say, “Worlds are colliding!” Perhaps it was only a matter of time before Super Mario Bros. and Ghostbusters found each other on a t-shirt. The result: Nerdy Shirts’ so-called Boo Buster Ghostbuster Mario Bros. Funny Shirt. Whoa, that’s a mouthful. For the sake of brevity, let’s amend that to the Boo Buster t-shirt going forward.

We all remember the classic Ghostbusters trademark, that startled ghost with a big red circle-cross stamped over him, and who doesn’t remember Boo, who first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3? How many of us found ourselves trapped in a castle with Boos on each side and nowhere to turn to cease their incessant pursuit? Each of these imagines is a cultural institution in its own right.

As for the shirt, it replaces the Ghostbuster ghost with Boo from Mario Bros. The message is clear — I ain’t ‘fraid of no Boo. After all, getting by those Boos isn’t too difficult once you get the hang of it. Just sprint by them. They’re slow. Congratulations, you’ve graduated from Mario Bros. University! With honors!

Doesn’t Boo look better inside the circle-cross, anyway? The Ghostbuster ghost’s head looks like the top of a DQ ice cream cone. Get your Boo Buster t-shirt here.

  1. Hmm. I wonder if this predates the design I created and submitted to SplitReason on 11/24/2008: Boo Busters.

I do like the pixelated look of the Boo, but I’m not very keen on the placement.

  2. Admin Dave says:

Hey Collin, I’d also be interested in knowing which design came first – while the two designs are done in different styles, the concept is exactly the same.

  3. True, but that’s not unheard of. All I can say for certain is that I didn’t see this design before making mine. And I’m not saying that this person saw mine before making his/hers either. If it looked more like mine, I would cry foul. As it is, I would say we were both inspired by Ghostbusters and Mario.
