It’s Saturday after a long week of work and/or school. Your significant other dumped you on Tuesday, the boss chewed your ass on Thursday, and all you want to do is make it to the weekend so you can shut the old noodle off and play a little Call of Duty. Then you turn on your XBox and what do you see? The Red Ring of Death. Mark this special occasion or mourn for those who have succumb to the RRoD with the Red Ring of Death t-shirt.
The RRoD is an Xbox telltale sign that its experiencing some hardware failure. It’s usually due to excessive heat (did you really have to play for 14 hours yesterday?) which stresses the solder joints on the CPU/GPU and causes said joints to separate. The result is 3/4 of your Xbox’s Ring of Light glowing red, and this is what we see on the t-shirt, as well as an “Achievement Unlocked” notification. Silver lining, I suppose.
When the RRoD comes into play, you have one of two options: (a) attempt to remedy this situation through customer service or (b) fix it yourself. I suppose option (c) is toss the Xbox out the window.
